Do many bloggers have more integrity than news journalists?

August 20th, 2008

Zeth over at Commandline Warriors made a good point about major news publications failing to cite their sources when coming from the web, and how they rarely (if ever) include hyperlinks to the original article.

My personal rule when posting about content that is not my own, or includes any direct quotes/images/etc.., is always include a link to the original content. It may not always be in the article itself, but there is always a hyperlink at the bottom of my posts pointing to the original content.

This not only is common courtesy, but also alleviates any suspicions of plagiarism. I like it, because it gives “incoming links” or “Link Backs” helping to send traffic to the author who obviously did more work than I did. Bloggers work hard to put together content, and major publications usually fail to give them appropriate credit. These sites thrive on how many visitors they receive whether they are ad-supported or not. They best feedback for these blogs (including mine), is how many unique visitors you are receiving every day.

Anyway, check out Zeths brief rant about how easy it is for news publications online to include a simple hyperlink to their sources.

The difference between religion and a cult is just a matter of popularity.

This article made me sick. What made me even more sick is that there are many recognized “sects” of Christianity that do things like this all the time. Since when does God over-rule common sense?

So, the big guy here has been yapping away on his toy phone all afternoon. What I haven’t figured out is, how does he know what it is supposed to be? He has never seen anything other than a cell phone!
If you had never seen a telephone before, would you know what that toy was for?
