I personally love the thought of the iPad. I have a desktop, an iPhone and a netbook which currently serves as mainly my portable web browser and not much else as far computing goes. I think the iPad does bridge that gap between my phone and iMac.

Very true. When I put this post out originally, the App store was in its infancy. There may be more options now in both the app store and cydia, although I have had little interest in checking.

You’re missing one thing. Neither gTxtEdit, WriteRoom nor TextGuru has support for syntax highlighting. For me, a “real” text editor has this feature. It turns out nano has this and by that comes forth victorious in the battle of text editors.

You have to enable this by editing you’re .nanorc, though. See http://freethegnu.wordpress.com/2007/06/23/nano-shortcuts-syntax-highlight-and-nanorc-config-file-pt2/ for instructions.
